I drew this some times ago while watching Ponyo. It's Ponyo's dad, Fujimoto. He's an amazing sea wizard! Coloring this was a nice little break from deadline hurt.

Also, this is really fun:

Boobs are for stabbing???

Lere's a regular MARAT! Well, without the skin problems, I guess.

Saw this on [info]harveyjames' last post. Do one here: http://www.getgrossedout.com/

just thought id share with y'all an awesome blog i discovered
http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/
James Gurney, the illustrator of Dinotopia, who i have loved for many years. As a kid i loved dinosaurs and these books showing an amazing world where people lived with them were amazing. Plus he made it all seem real by saying that he found this journal in a library with all the paintings of this secret continent in.

and there was a map at the beginning, and anyone who knows me, knows that i will love a book if it has a map in the front.
(my finished book is totally going to have a galactic map at the beginning)
here's some cool pictures i nabbed off his blog

and also, here's a picture of the new doctor's new assistant from Doctor Who 2010. She is a fine looking woman.

and the doctor

the new doctor has a 'science teacher from the 50s' chic which i like. kind of like indiana jones when he's a university lecturer. plus its all being written by Stephen Moffat who wrote blink and the satan's pit episodes. I think this series is gonna rule.

we've still got the tennant christmas specials to come yet though... Doctor Who makes christmas for me
sorry i got no arts, just been churning pages for my next chapter
love to all

Hello,

Marian is off on island adventures and I'm home-- staying up all night to meet a cover deadline.
Here's how it came out:

It's for the issue that has a board game as part of the story--so the idea
is you can cut out different characters from the front and back cover to play it with.
I'm happy with how the price tag on this one worked out.

I just switched to larger paper for the last 30 pages of the book.
Im drawing it 2 inches bigger.
Hopefully it'll add some je ne se qua to the end of the thing.

Here's the first page of issue 12. (still the old size paper)
ass and hummus--

And a page out of my sketchbook.
on the left is me in Marians dads sweater that I refuse to take off in this icy cold
canadian weather.

Here's a KC drawing the late great Mike Wieringo did after the first book came out.
This picture was/is a big deal for me.
he drew Joe so good looking and the cat so surley.

I was reading an old Moebius interview he said "being an artist you have one foot
in eternity and one foot in the real world."- made it think about what of your work gets left beind after you're gone. As much as I might just leave the world a million fart puns richer--
It's exciting to think about. Like how much personality Bode put into his one page strips
this stuff sticks around.

anywayy--I've been looking at a lot of Ronald D-pi Wimberly's stuff this week. That dude makes such cool pages. I like these pages from a Jessica Abel story he drew.
man, that logo--

soo good.
The rest of it's here:
http://d-pi.com/dtv/graphix/short-cuts/the-beautiful-ones/

And I ran into these pages from World Apartment Horror. I guess it's a manga adaption
of a live action Otomo movie that another artist drew. I know very little about it but I like the pages.

Here's the first chunk of it in Italian:
http://www.nonsolomanga.it/manga2/otomo_wah.htm

and some pages from a collection of short stories called presentforme.

I like dude's parachute helmet. Even if its not too efective.

more of it up here in Chinese
http://comic.131.com/content/58/175/1.html

And here's a drawing of a cat that I thought was cool.

And I ran into this crazy shit in an old Shonen jump.
so -this menacing dude shows up to show off his incredibly well trained bats.
and how does he repay them?

what a dick. bat eating dick.
This is the type of shit I imagine goes on at burning man.

And here's a Tintin parody from a 1990 Watson Portello comic called Inferno.

I like seeing tintin with a beard.

And here's some Somerset Homes pages that I liked the layouts of.
It's cool to see storytelling being played with this much in this style.

and here's another Japanese dune picture. the David Lynch stuff.
I always think of this version when I think of Dune--
man that Baron Harkonnen looks even grosser in that middle drawing.
like sun burned boils.

and some rad Birth tape covers.

and captain futureee with his front heavy space shark.

Aight--Ive been up way too long.

The JFish Christmas List! [Dec. 10th, 2009|01:14 pm]

Are you stumped as to what to get your most treasured, loved ones for XMAS and/or Hanukkah? Let me give you some ideas, which all coincidentally include my work and/or art!

From Poseur Ink: SIDE A & SIDE B!

Both graphic novel anthologies which feature many great artists and writers expressing their love for music and how it effects their lives. I have a 6 pager in Side A which I created in 2007 and an 8 pager in Side B, written by Greg Khmara, that we created late 2008.

Side A and Side B can both be purchased at the Poseur Ink store!

From Color Ink Book: TWO ISSUES, A SHIRT & A COOL FIGURINE!

I started having black and white line art in the second issue of Color Ink Book, printed earlier this year, and have since been in volume four as well. The fourth volume had a cover variant which I drew, but that was a San Diego Comic Con limited edition. For SDCC, they also printed my Skeleton Rayola onto American Apparel classic tees and partnered with legendary toy designer and sculptor David Arshawsky to make a pencil topper/zipper pull figurine of the same design! It even glows in the dark!

All these items and more can be purchased at the Color Ink Book store!

From Blood is the New Black: A SHIRT AND SOME ORIGINAL ART!

Greg and I teamed up once again to produce a new shirt for Blood is the New Black, the "Insane Mane". Finally, you can be clean shaven and still sport a big beard! We have four designs coming out with the Spring season, three of which are in my marker colors :) The two illustrations above were created for the 5th anniversary party and art show, which was held at Junc Gallery and featured "Blood" and "Black" themed work from the BITNB artists. Both pieces are originals, 16x20" painted India ink on Bee canvas paper.

Insane Mane and the pieces can be purchased here!

From Cafe Con Leche: DARK RAINBOW STICKERS + A CHEESEBURGER AND FRIES!

[info]inechi and Roi have a store in which they sell their original stuffed creatures known as Bastardines, as well as their zines, buttons and stickers. They print and sell other artists' work in sticker format which includes Jaephisch and the Dark Rainbow characters and my most recent burger and fries drawing!

My sticker store at Cafe Con Leche!

Besides these wonderful places and their items of pleasure, I have lots of affordable items at my Etsy store and I have a few original pieces for sale on the Pony Club Gallery shop, which also has new work from my fellow members from the current show.

That's all folks! I ho-ho-hope you get the presents you most desire this holiday season! Whether it's my work or another artist's work, please support the artist community and get your gifts from us folk! Better yet, make your gifts for your friends and family. That's a much better present than that iPhone or that HD tv.

"Death Enjoys A Holiday Treat" postcards! [Dec. 9th, 2009|12:18 pm]

[Tags|, , , ]

I haven't printed holiday cards since 2007 and I am very happy to print a batch this year! I made my piece "Death Enjoys A Holiday Treat" for that purpose and I just got the cards from the printer today. I went with Phoenix Media in Portland, Oregon and they turned out great!

Printed on both sides postcard style with the title and my website teeny on the back.

I am charging $5 for 3 postcards +1 which I make out to you personally. I'll draw a little doodle on the card as well.

I'm sending card orders out every day from now until Monday the 14th; I am taking orders from now till Sunday the 13th. If you would like to purchase a postcard set, I have them for sale on my Etsy:

I hope everyone has a great holiday season and a nice new year!

SEEDLESS 68 [Dec. 9th, 2009|04:55 am]

reyyy

So YEAH, Seedless is my chibi-style MEGAMAN / DRAGON BALL mini-cosmic comic. Dragon Ball in it's nature, in the way the fighting locales must be unique with each new chapter (though, admittedly, Dragon Ball eventually almost always took place in deserts)-- So far, the battle locale for Seedless has been a KITCHEN, a JUNGLE and now a GROCERY STORE (and two random planets including Fajita's side stories). Pretty good lineup so far. I especially like the Grocery Store setting, because it has a checkered floor, which is all Sonic the Hedgehog style in it's simplistic ska awesomeness.

Here is a work in progress of the upcoming CHAPTER BREAK pages / stat page. Using the new totally digital photoshop drawing technique for these:

This will also be featured in an upcoming printedEditionOFseedless which is kind of in a hazy top-secret state of the art, at the moment...

And my friend MAX has a sweet comic up on ZUDA. If you got a minute, check it out and vote for it N STUUUFFFF

There are actually a couple other good / interesting comics in this month's ZUDA competition. But Max is my buddy, so give his comic a biased chance.

but it could possibly be the best art i've ever made after optimus prime holding a boombox

And this is my official X-Mas jam right now by a band fittingly named "SLEIGH BELLS" listen to it if you want to give your ears booming pleasure:

I am way into Aya Takana right now.

If this is "Superflat", this is really what I want Seedless to be like. Going to start making adjustments.

Pain & Pleasure Go Good Together [Dec. 7th, 2009|06:37 am]

yfrontninja

Yoyo is Lere's off-again-on-again girlfriend. Once a month or so she breaks his heart into tiny pieces, or sells his organs to the underground city, or cashes him in for the mob's reward. Sometimes they have good times, good enough for him to forget that she's probably using him for something. She's very pretty, has an interesting past, and, yes, pink is her real hair color. Jane would love to give this girl a good smack for all the times Lere came home in the morning, having been sent packing without any breakfast. "I'm not sad, I'm good in bed. I'll stay well fed in the morning".

That washroom IS FILTHY. One can only imagine the terrible events that are about to unfold for our glassy-eyed hero.

Here's a marker drawing of her I did on the back of a bank statement.

Also, here's a crazy country girl with a key around her neck. I'd love to draw her body some time and perhaps the door that belongs to that key.

Busy busy busy. Busy. I'm busy. Look at me coloring doodles instead of the things I'm supposed to be doing. Well, I'm supposed to be getting up to go to work in half an'hour. Mmmmm. I live the good life.

Hello,

I turned 33 this week.
to celebrate I ate cheezeburgers in front of the first 3 hours of 24.
murder and torture and cheeseburgers.

I found a comic I'd drawn a couple years ago as a note to myself.
Really personal stuff about my deepest fears and hopes.
I planned on doing something like that this year but it devolved into this:

Stokoe came up with the --leg of their own book title joke.

Origonally it was going to be about me going to meet the gods of comics.
I was going to draw them as big mount rushmore faces of Tezuka Herge and Kirby.
(my pal corey did a good comic where the comic god looked like a giant transformers head)

The bathtub stuff was all a lead up to meeting the comic gods but then as I was penciling it
I realized I needed to turn in another KC back cover. so it became one of those.
This will be on issue 8.
--------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile Marian has been in her secret lair (living room/studio)
playing the video game Dragon Aids and making comics about it:

I always imagined Klingon warnog to be like xmas Eggnog but made out of the
blood of your fallen foes.

The blood of your fallen enemies is hella fattening.

Oh, also for my birthday Marian and her mom gave me this futuristic science fiction
coffee replicator device.

It has a brew pause button on it.
I'm calling it Dr brew Pinski
or Brew-ba-papa

That is meant to be J jonah jameson of spiderman fame with a kid and play
cut and hammer pants.

And something else out of my sketchbook.
um-pum indeed.

And here's some Appleseed ish I thought was cool.

I've been all about pre computer art Shirow this week.
even more than usual.

I like this 4 page thing he did that came out a couple years ago
in a book called A decade of darkhorse.
It feels like a Shirow heavy metal story --tits and robots and all.

It's funny how a dude who is so adamant about details --how a swat mission
would realisticly go down and all that--never has any problems with characters
showing up for combat shit in pink ballerina outfits.

That and a bunch more good shirow is up here:
http://www.motorballer.org/shirow/exon.html

One thing I found out about on that site that I was tottaly unaware of is
a whole Ghost in the shell book that Shirow drew by hand before he
decided to just make glossy computer porn for robots.

And it's been out in english for years. SHIT!
I like how nerdy the tittle is--
Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human-Error Processor.
NERD!

I do dramaticly prefer appleseed to Ghost in the shell stuff
but the technical ability is still there.

I am excited. here's some pages I pulled off the internet.

I'm into that backflip on the top left. how it leads you into the next panel.

And here's some Naoki Urasawa thumbnails.--20th century boys i think

And some old stereo ads with that rock manga To-y that I am so fond of.

boys don't rush to be men" you listening--
Boyz II Men, ABC, BBD The eastcoast family?

oom do do do da ayye ayye yiiiiiiii

oh look, old japanese Dune book covers--
the sleeper has awoken

And a valerian page I thought was cool. I like how Mézières did the shadows on the water.

LUMCAR!

and some other old japanese magazine stuff I liked.

This guys stuff reminds me of Rockin jelly bean.
I like his mazinger z lady.

more of his stuff here:
http://oprince.no-blog.jp/

And a video from the french comic TRAMP

And a Tony Jaa video my pal Corey Lewis did a million years ago.
This video is really like watching coreys soul

Aight im off to harass my dear sweet lady.

oh also I wanted to mention the fine dudes at Comicsforserious
have been doing Beast week talking about Marians book.
http://comicsforserious.blogspot.com/
BEASTWEEK!
